My collections of #glass #fish have been created under two Ickworth influences: Lady Geraldine Hervey’s remarkable cabinets of silver fish and the ‘Linnet Valley Trail’ which takes visitors along the River Linnet, a habitat for minnows, stone loach, pike, eel, gudgeon and three-spined stickleback. ‘Curious Work’ opens next week and I’ve continued to explore the artefacts and ornament of shrines in #glass Amulets, talismans and charms: small symbols imbued with the hopes, fears and prayers that arise in matters of fertility, birth and early child-rearing. In the 17th century when infant mortality was high, coral was widely used as a talisman from birth onwards, symbolising vigour and life force - it also had practical application as a teether for infants.
