Holy stone

An ornate #glass hagstone or holy stone (or more prosaically, holeystone) a talisman from my #portableshrine Worlds Within. I’ve just found the most solid rationale of how they operate as charms: the hole is created by flowing/running/shifting water and unsolicited magic (bad luck) cannot work on running water. Plus it cannot pass through the hole in the stone. There are numerous names and uses for these naturally occurring sculptures: wish stones, adder stones, witch stones, druid stones, pledge stones. Hanging one up in your barn to prevent the faerie riding your pigs, goats or horses into a frenzy (hag-ridden) is a more lively custom but less apt for my purposes. We find them all along the Suffolk coast and it always feels lucky. Find my glass at @beingwoman2025 at Diss Cornhall until 3rd May.
