Genius Loci

I’ve been exploring ghosts this October through Genius loci - spirits of place. Specifically a magnificent garden, with the 17th Century poet Marvel:
‘ The Oak-Leaves me embroyder all,
Between which Caterpillars crawl:
And Ivy, with familiar trails,
Me licks, and clasps, and curles, and hales.
Under this antick Cope I move
Like some great Prelate of the Grove‘
‘Upon Appleton House’ is an exploration of the house, grounds and history of a place in relation to his patron at a time of considerable political instability. For me it’s the garden that comes alive in many forms and with a spirit of its own. Flamework #glass pendant, cabochon and ring - with a nod to the portraits of 17th century miniaturist Nicholas Hilliard.
