I’m dipping into the discovery of a buried treasure trove (circa 1640) by workmen in 1912 on Cheapside in London. The hoard was taken to a dealer named Stony Jack and mostly acquired by The London Museum. Much of the collection would likely otherwise have been repurposed, lost, broken or melted down. Taken en masse, the collection yields significant proof of the skills, materials, trade routes, fashions and preoccupations of the era. Wonderful photos/illustrations, an eBay find and a great story, well told.
